G'Day Tomas,

Just wondering how you are going and what the future of the project is.

If differences can't be resolved with Ms Makarova, can a different source be found to supply work.
It does not even have to be mathematics, it could be anything really, but there are heaps of Maths problems out there that I am sure need some help.

Perhaps some University needs a bit of extra help?

Anyway, hope all is well and catch you when you are older (ha,ha)

Any, If at all, continuation of this project will not happen before summer.

We have a boinc project at uni, Fitcrack (offline? - doc here), it is for distributed password cracking.

Makarova has more computation available with her experiments on Latin squares. We could run those.

DesA has some interesting fluid simulation ideas. I wrote him what properties should the boinc apps exhibit to run comfortably. We will see what he prepares until then. He has some other ideas, not only the simulation, more computational or even neural-networkey.

Next is a Gridcoin microgrid. It is an ambition to provide various levels of commercial boinc hosting and support. Development of boinc apps is part of the ambitions. Customers would give us their non-boinc programs and problem-space and we will make it run on boinc. Non-profit "customers" can be backed by the gridcoin whitelist. This server will be the testbed for this initiative.

There are some improvement to the boinc codebase that I want to make, and this server will be the testbed. For example torrent or ipfs asset distribution that would ease up the load on boinc file-server. And making the BOINC API easier to use (proper library, out-of-tree builds, docs).

Next is a CPU fuzzer. It's goal is to discover what undocumented instructions are available in the various processors owned by crunchers. The fuzzer itself already exists.

I would like to explore possibility of building and CI of software on the boinc clients. Including distributing the boinc apps themselves in source form, to be compiled on the crunchers' computer. In Linux, programs were meant to be compiled on the target computer since ever, so why fight with static linking and binary incompatibility?

Another inspiration is PlanetLab non-boinc project. I would like to use boinc to quickly deploy experimental P2P software, see how well it forms a p2p network in close to real world controlled scenario and undeploy it equally easily.

Hentai@Home is a interesting project, because it is unlike many, storage and bandwidth intensive instead of computation. I realize that home networks are not optimized for heavy uploads.

As you see there are many ideas. Probably I will choose two in the summer. And of course, nothing will happen without consent of the crunchers.

Thanks Tomas, for the information and update on how things stand. We are good at waiting for things to happen.

Do I understand correctly that you would like to run one of my experiments?

I have some interesting experiments that require a lot of calculations.
If you want, I can present you one of such experiments in personal correspondence (this algorithm is not yet accessible to all).
You implement this algorithm and run it in your BOINC project.
This will work without my mandatory participation.

I require two conditions:

1. You monthly publish the results of the project.
2. You give me access to current project results.

Do you agree?

PS. This is a long experiment, it can last for 1-2 years.
The experiment has three branches, each branch can be run as a separate Application.

I forgot to say important.
The experiment software is available.
Only an adaptation for the BOINC project is required.

WTF, you want us to host anime images? That is NOT what BOINC is about.

Natalia Makarova:

Yes. I am willing to run your experiments. The conditions are acceptable.

mmonnin:

1st: I find it interesting use case to host content with help of boinc. eH@H is only I know that uses boinc for this. 2nd:
(me): And of course, nothing will happen without consent of the crunchers.

For both:
(me): continuation of this project will not happen before summer.

Also we need to coordinate efforts with Yoyo from Rechenkraft to not step on each others toes.

OK.
I will send you a description of the algorithm.

I sent you a preliminary description of my experiment in two addresses (March 28).

Please acknowledge receipt.
Then I will continue the description.

I received the following message from you

I can run the experiment on my server, but I am busy with my study. I will
be busy in April, May and June. You (or anyone) can still ask me
question, you can send me more data. I will be happy to read it. But I
can't create boinc application or work with the server until I am done
with the study.

I will send you a description of the experiment when you are ready to start it in the BOINC project.
Please inform me about it.

Our friends at Rechenkraft while back started a search for solutions of the M-Queens problem. To my knowledge, they are not using Knuth's DLX algorithm. It would be interesting to apply DLX algorithm to the m-queens problem. Would it be faster or slower?

I run BOINC on my machines to support scientists with compute intensive tasks. I will not run storage, (etc.) jobs. You must allow people to select what jobs they are running, or people like me will simply drop you.

I do not know what project you are looking at but this is a MATH project and DOES allow you to select one or more sub-projects:
Run only the selected applications
* PADLS Total
* Lua Alfa
* Symmetric Prime Tuples

Applications
T.Brada Experimental Grid currently has the following applications. When you participate in T.Brada Experimental Grid, tasks for one or more of these applications will be assigned to your computer. The current version of the application will be downloaded to your computer. This happens automatically; you don't have to do anything.

PADLS Total
Platform	Version	Created	Average computing
Microsoft Windows running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU	5.10	18 Sep 2019, 18:19:41 UTC	0 GigaFLOPS
Linux running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU	5.10	18 Sep 2019, 18:19:34 UTC	0 GigaFLOPS
Linux running on ARM v7l, hardware FP	5.10	18 Sep 2019, 18:19:39 UTC	0 GigaFLOPS
Lua Alfa (beta test)
Platform	Version	Created	Average computing
Linux running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU	0.02	17 Sep 2019, 15:29:42 UTC	0 GigaFLOPS
Symmetric Prime Tuples
Platform	Version	Created	Average computing
Linux running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU	0.03	16 Oct 2019, 15:20:20 UTC	0 GigaFLOPS

You are quite right, I was not looking in the right place. It is clearly not a project for me so will drop it when the already downloaded tasks are complete.

Thanks Dr Who Fan for reminding adrianxw that he can always choose the subproject to run.
Moreover, we have forums, and are open to suggestions. So If yo have something to improve, you are welcome.
If you think that neither ODLS nor primes are not for you, I politely ask you to consider staying attached to Lua Alfa subproject. It is a non-compute intensive subproject to test what is possibnle and improve the boinc platform.

Okay, I'll leave it on for now with that sub-project enabled.
